better late than never. top 10 looks from New York Fashion Week

No. 10:It's not that I felt obligated, but I think that Proenza Schouler could have sent cellophane snuggies down the runway and they would have made my top ten. I love collections with designer collaborations and these boys are taking American Fashion by storm. I'm all for this weird, over-sized, basket weave, strait jacket look. Proenza Schouler kind of disregarded the female body with this collection but at the same time presented something that feels empowering for women.

No. 9:
Prabal Gurung gave me a bit of Marchesa meets McQueen vibe but never lost his own voice. This look is strange, I'll say it. I think the fact that it's stark white is what was so shocking to me. But I can picture all sorts of editorial Vogue/Harper's Bazaar shoots with this ethereal gown. It's the sort of look that you don't soon forget.

No. 8:
This Creatures Of The Wind dress was the first look that I saved as one of my top 10. It's like, how dare they make a patent leather princess seam tea-length dress? I don't know on who/where this dress will surface but as soon as I saw it I knew it was special.

No 7:
The entire Rebecca Minkoff collection was made for me. I watched the entire show thinking "I would wear that." And not in an "I would wear that...if I were married to Daniel Craig and invited to the chicest event of all time and I lost 75 pounds and if paparazzi were following me around" kind of way. No, I would wear this collection in real life. Even though the show opened with sequin, drop crotch pants I would STILL ride the Green Line in this entire collection.

No. 6:
I was pretty stoked on this Derek Lam look as soon as it came out. There was a lot of really great knit wear this fall. And pair it with a flowy maxi skirt, I can get on board with that. I love this color and how it looks on the model. Derek Lam knows how to turn out some pretty pretty ladies. Who wouldn't want to look like this?

No 5:Hold up, what? Did Naeem Khan show an entire black and white collection? Yes he did. It. Was. Awesome. Not a speck of color hit his runway, that being said, this was my favorite collection ever. This dress. This dress? This dress! And of course he paired it with a super sheer black nylon for a throwback, old Hollywood vibe. Too bad award season is done because someone worthy needs to wear this dress, for real.

No 4:
Give me more mullet skirts please! I adore this Wes Gordon look with all of my heart. The color, the cut, the crimson pointed toe heels paired with a a clumsy bearded tank top, why? Who cares?! This is what NYFW is all about, creating Fashion that is fun to watch. It's OK that it make little to no sense until you see them in a magazine or on Tommy Ton's blog.

No 3:
Oh Jason Wu, you did it again. Not that anyone doubted that the Fall collection would be anything short of spectacular. This dress is special not only because it is beautiful and interesting but because it is particularly inspired without being obvious. The whole presentation was an homage to Wu's own Chinese heritage. I think that the high neck with the sharp shoulders and long selves with that length is just perfect. I love her hair pulled back super tight with the long fringe earnings. I'm a sucker for a black dress with any form of gold detailing so I was pretty much sold on this look from the moment we met.

No 2:It was really hard for me to pick a favorite look from this season Helmut Lang collection. There was so much interesting seaming and pants and cuts and shapes and prints. Each piece was so specially crafted, I loved it all. And shoes! What is going on with these shoes? Or are they pants? Let's just fuse the two together into a continuous well tailored wedge heeled wonder. I watched this show twice in a row because I spent the the first time looking at all on the models from the knees down. Their legs looked so strangely good, I want it.

No. 1:
I'll give you a second to take in this Marchesa gown...all set? No? I didn't think so... WHAT THE WHAT?!? I don't eve know where to start. I guess I just have to say first off Kate King, congratulations. This girl walked in so many great shows and for her to pull off this look is very special. I mean homegirl is fox. Now that's out of the way I would like to direct your attention to the rib cage chest detail above. It's so weird and unexpected and yet it belongs. This dress is something out of mythology, it needs that oddity. Marchesa never skimps on the details and in this case the details are doing all of the work. This dress isn't effortless or understated. It's bold and unique, and really hard to wear. And for that, I thank you.

switch blades and sand crafts...not the name of my new, terrible band

I thought that after Rodarte gave up their collaboration with Nicholas Kirkwood there would be a big void in the label's collection. Last spring didn't do much for me but this past show was pretty thrilling (south-side, that is). I can't even believe some of the creativity and inspiration with these shoes. How awesome the heels with the sand art? Nostalgia for days! Wacky Indiana Jones-ish switch blade accents definitely toughen up the soft leather. And then there is some tromp loiel, bootie, mary jane-ish action that is making me very happy and jealous of Chloe Mortez, the Fanning sisters, and Hailee Steinfeld because you KNOW they are getting these expedited to their feet asap.

London killing it

Forget New York! Across the pond has been destroying this season. 2 of my favorite presentations thus far...

Burberry Prosum
Bows! Bows! Bows! Give me every belt from this collection! And a color blocked puffer trench coat?? I'll take it. Obviously Christopher Bailey is a total hottie king of outerwear yet again. Watch the throne..everyone else.

Mary Katrantzou
Miss Katrantzou did the damn thing yet again. She is the diva of prints, that goes without saying. This collection was classic Mary Katrantzou and I know that celebrities across the style board will be itching to get their hands all over this wacky yet wearable collection.

Can't wait to catch the rest of the shows!

random trends from NYFW

I'm sure that I'm not the only one who noticed these 2 very coincidental trends this past fashion week.

Fist we have outrageous, oversize, fur hats:To your left you have Marc Jacobs and to your right is Michael Kors. Two presentations by some of the most staple American ready-to-wear Fashion both showcased fuzzy headpieces that all but engulfed their model's heads. While Micheal Kors topped 4 of his girls off with these hats Marc Jacobs took it to a whole new level with every girl rocking some sort of variation.

And next there is...hand prints?
Left Side is Diane von Furstenberg and right side is Rodarte. These ladies showed entirely different collections with designs and aesthetics that had nearly nothing in common. But wait! Do I spy a distinct use of hands in both collections? Furstneberg creates her print in Mod-ish color blocking way (get ready for color blocking, it's coming for you). The
Mulleavy sisters of Rodarte created their, I'll call it timeless vintage specialty. The hands on this dress give me a bit of a ghost vibe. No?

Let's see if either of these trends pop up in London, Milan, or Paris...

byproduct of a lifestyle obsession

My opinions can be pretty strong, those who know me would probably laugh and say that this is a wildly inappropriate understatement. On of my least favorite questions is "what do you like to do?" because it's hardly ever ok to say "observing and/or criticizing". But that is what I like to do. Formulating opinions is an actual hobby for me, hence what you have on your computer screen. So I thought that I should tell you about stuff that I like, that way you won't be surprised to see studs covering 94% of all things with the caption "loooooove" (I promise to never actually use that caption).
When it comes to Fashion, and therefore my personal style and life, I like:
- exorbitant attention to details
- juxtaposition
- pomp and circumstance
- surrealism
- tattoos (see my unhealthy obsession with the Mugler muse Rico)
- skulls, studs and leather
- bows, full ball gowns, and glitter
- confidence
I also really like elephants.

that's how i want to go

Yesterday the Fashion world suffered a great loss. Zelda Kaplan, most famous for her club kid days and affinity for African inspiration passed away in New York at age 95. What is so poignant about her passing is Zelda died while sitting front row at New York Fashion Week. Not many people can be remembered as their last moments on this earth being at the epicenter of their truest passion. Too many amazing people who have lived epic and meaningful lives have spent their finale so far removed from anything that resembled the zeal of their former life. But not Zelda, she went out in style.

2 sides to the same coin

Girls, music, Vogue...you'll get it...just keep reading

Adele just won what, like, 700 Grammys. It's safe to say that she is killing it on all levels. Plus she landed her second Vogue cover but it's what's inside that counts.

Behold, Adele in my favorite Oscar de la Renta gown
Now, I have to say I have been waiting for this gown to surface - as I knew it would - and I wish that it was shot in it's full glory. The top is the best feature and I don't think that it gets enough play in this photo. Also, the skirt has that sort of mullet effect that could have shown off some legs. That being said, Adele is the perfect woman to wear this gown.

And on the other hand we have Lana Del Ray. Music's newest...??? It girl? Laughing stock? Hot chick? Dumb ass with a rich dad? Who cares??? She is crazy beautiful, models on the side, and get Vogue covers ALREADY.
She looks miraculous in Spring Louis Vuitton
She is laughing all the way to the MET Gala. So say what you will about her music, this girl is here to stay. LOOK AT HER FACE! the only think that I don't get about this cover is what's going on with her hands? The ring is cool, I can get on board with it I guess. But her nails throw me for a loop. Those talon-y things have kind of been her thing but this past Louis Vouttion collection was so sweet and girly they could have gone down a few shades. The look a bit Cruella Deville (note: ordinarily this is not a bad thing) for this look.

So I guess the question is, does the talent enhance the look? Knowing that Adele is an extraordinary performer does give her some points over Del Ray. And kudos to Vogue for picking a non-tradish cover girl and incorporating some full body shots. But even though I know that Lana Del Ray is at best an average singer, I want her to pose in every outfit for every photographer on every magazine. I say she quits music all together and knock Karlie Kloss off of her high horse (just kidding I lover her too, just stop it with the Victoria Secret crap).
So I know that Boston is not the most sartorially acclaimed city in the world. Some would go so far as to declare Boston the worst dressed city in America. There is little to be desired from a place where any sports t-shirt and leggings is appropriate brunch attire for a lady. But I believe deep down that Boston is a place, that upon careful inspection, is full of stylish individuals who dress consciously and with heart.

We can't really blame Boston for it's bottom ranking in the Fashion world. There are more hungover college kids in this city than should be allowed and I can't really get into what prestige sports teams hold without getting heated so I'll leave it at: people apparently give a shit.
Boston might not ever compare to chic cities like Milan or New York but let's not act like everyone is walking around looking like Carrie Bradshaw. For ever one pair of Manolos out on the streets at any given time there are (approximately) 1,457 pairs of Uggs, Candies, Crocks, Sketchers Shape Ups, and any brand of flip-flops.

I love Fashion and I want to give some credit back to Boston.

And thusly...

There are thousands of Fashion blogs out there but what makes mine clearly so much better than all of the rest is that it will feature real Bostonians who are stepping their Fashion game up. I promise not to be a stage 5 creeper and post lo-res mobile uploads.

What you can expect to see:
- Real life people (that you may know!) it their real life Fashion
- Basic Fashion news, because everyone should be in the know
- Admittedly, personal opinions and self-referential/self-serving nonsense

What you will never see:
-Anyone who looks like this
* I found this photo on a website called Cool Picture Gallery filed under "Hot Red Sox Fans". It consisted of about 40 zoomed in shots of random girls at Fenway. Gross.
